Redington Beach Man Allegedly Left Child in Car, Ran from Police

A Redington Beach man faces several charges after police say he ran from officers, led them on a manhunt and left a child inside the abandoned vehicle.

William Shon Bursiel, 41, of Redington Beach, was arrested on several charges after police say he parked his car and ran from officials - leaving a child behind.

According to the Pinellas County arrest report, Bursiel was driving on Gulf Blvd. around 7:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 9 when a Pinellas County Sheriff's Deputy tried to conduct a traffic stop. According to police, the vehicle had a cracked windshield and the driver was going 44 mph in a 35 mph zone, with no seatbelt on.

When the Pinellas County Sheriff's Deputy activated the lights, Bursiel accelerated to more than 50 mph and then pulled over and parked, according to the report. Officials say he then ran from the parked vehicle and left the ignition on with a child inside. According to reports, deputies located the child within five minutes after Bursiel ran.

Bursiel is charged with child abuse, fleeing and eluding a police officer, resisting arrest without violence and no valid driver's license. According to the Pinellas County arrest report, Bursiel is listed as a fugitive out of Harris County, TX for violation of parole for a burglary charge.

According to reports, Bursiel told the officer he didn't have a license in any state and "he ran because he freaked knowing he didn't have a license and was on probation in Texas. He added he was here without permission. He also had a warrant from Texas," as stated in the report.

Bail is currently set at $10,400 for four charges.
