Officials say cold shelters will open at various locations around the county around 6 p.m. on Sunday, March 3. Guests will be accepted throughout the night.
Anticipated cold temperatures and high wind gusts over the weekend are prompting Pinellas County officials to open cold night shelters on Sunday, March 3. Temperatures are expected to drop to 48, and wind gusts may reach up to 20 mph. Officials say cold shelters will open at various locations around the county around 6 p.m. Guests will be accepted throughout the night. The shelters will close Monday morning at approximately 6 a.m. Shelter guests are provided a hot evening meal, a warm safe place to spend the night and breakfast the following morning, county officials say. Nature adventurer Daniel Alvarez, originally from Tallahassee, is wrapping up a 2-day stay in Gulfport before heading down the coast on his journey to Key West. The 12th Annual Geckofest is the premier event in this week's Patch Minute. The free end-of-summer festival is expected to lure 30,000 people to Gulfport. Mayor Mike Yakes is excited about the big event and hopes everyone can make it on Saturday, Sept. 1. Watch our video interview to hear from Mayor Yakes about the much-anticipated annual event. The weekend is here! What's going on at the Beaches, Gulfport and St. Petersburg? We have a few ideas for you!
Welcome to Patch Minute and welcome to your weekend. Every week we'll fill you in on local events and things to do in St. Pete, Gulfport and the Gulf Beaches. In St. Petersburg We're starting this week's Patch Minute at the Museum of Fine Arts in downtown St. Pete. If you love flowers and art, the Art in Bloom event is for you. It's one of the museum's most popular spring traditions. The event features floral interpretations of the museum's art. Flowers go on view on Friday and will stay up through Tuesday, March 6.
