Sheriff's Office to Handle Treasure Island Police Calls

According to the city, the sheriff's office call center begins it handling of the 911 calls at 7 a.m. July 21.

The Treasure Island City Commission decided earlier this summer to keep its police force instead of switching to the services of the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office. But starting July 21, if you call 911 the call will now be handled by the sheriff's office call center.

Treasure Island officials said the sheriff's office call center begins it handling of the police calls at 7 a.m. July 21.

According to the city, Treasure Island residents will still be able to call 547-4595 for non-emergency police calls.

Local officers, not sheriff's deputies, will still be the officers who the public sees.

The police said its department lobby will still be staffed 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday for records requests, finger printing, registrations, etc. A video monitor will be installed for police to monitor for requests after business hours.

According to a news release, since the lobby will not be staffed after hours, to report a crime at the lobby a red call box has been placed outside the lobby door that will provide communication with the county call taker.
