Man Struck By Car on St. Pete Beach

The man was crossing Gulf Boulevard when he was hit Saturday night, according to officials.

A man was seriously injured when he was struck by a car as he crossed Gulf Boulevard in St. Pete Beach on Saturday night, officials said.

Eric Jack Hampton, 58, of North Port, was crossing just south of 46th Avenue around 9:32 p.m. when the accident occurred, according to investigators

Witnesses told deputies that Hampton made it to the median and that as he ran across Gulf Boulevard he was struck by a 2004 MINI two-door that was headed southbound, in the curbside lane.

Hampton was taken to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg with serious injuries, a Pinellas County Sheriff's Office spokesperson said.

The car's driver, 69-year-old Susan W. Carlson of St. Pete Beach, was not hurt, according to the sheriff's report.

Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash, officials said.

The incident is still under investigation.
