Madeira Beach Fundamental Crossing Guard Injured

A two car crash in front of Madeira Beach Fundamental left two injured.

A two-car crash in front of Madeira Beach Fundamental left two injured this morning.

Two were injured in the chain of events, including Susan E. Daugherty. The 89-year-old crossing guard was working at the intersection of Duhme Road and American Legion Drive.

A car driven by Michelle Tallman, 37, was westbound on American Legion Drive around 7:15 a.m. and was turning with the green light to go southbound on Duhme Road when she reportedly tried to maneuver around school traffic, according to a news release.

Tallman's Honda struck a Mazda driven by Kari Monefeldt, 44, in front of Madeira Beach Fundamental, according to deputies.

The crash happened in front of a bicyclist, Hung The Nguyen, 92, who  accidentally sideswiped Daugherty in an effort to avoid the car crash, according to deputies.

Daugherty was treated for minor injuries on scene and Monefeldt was taken to Largo Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.

Tallman was cited with careless driving.
