Indian Rocks Beach Man Struck By Car While Crossing Gulf Blvd.

There are no crosswalks near where the incident occurred, authorities said.

An Indian Rocks man suffered life threatening injuries when he was struck by a car as he crossed Gulf Boulevard on Wednesday night, authorities said.

George Strollo, 66, was crossing the street near Eighth Avenue around 9:01 p.m. when he when he was hit by a 2008 Volvo C70 that was traveling northbound, the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office reports. There are no crosswalks in the area where the incident occurred.

Strocco was transported taken by helicopter to a local hospital with life threatening injuries, officials said.

The car's driver, 72-year-old Connie Ford of Belleair Beach, and her three passengers were uninjured.

The northbound lanes of Gulf Boulevard were closed for about three hours after the accident.

It's unknown if alcohol was a factor in the crash, authorities said Wednesday night.

The investigation is ongoing.
