David Patrick Conway of St. Petersburg has been charged with aggravated child abuse against a four-year-old boy, according to Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.
Conway, 23, was arrested in St. Pete Beach when the suspect was pulled over for a traffic stop.
Conway is accused of striking the child while the boy's mother was at work, according to the Sheriff's Office. She left the child in his care.
When she returned, the child told his mother that he was urinating blood.
The mother was able to confirm the blood later on and took the child in for medical attention.
Doctors found a laceration on the child's kidney caused by trauma. The child informed investigators that Conway had struck him.
The crime was reported on Oct. 5 and assigned to the detectives of Crimes Against Children Unit.
On Oct. 15, detectives performed a traffic stop at the intersection of Blind Pass and Captiva Circle in St. Pete Beach and arrested Conway.
Conway was transported to the Pinellas County Jail and is being held without bond.
