Passenger Run Over by PSTA Bus

The St. Petersburg man had just stepped off the bus, when he lost his balance, investigators said. The driver was from Indian Rocks Beach.

A 59-year-old St. Petersburg man has died, after falling under the wheel of a moving PSTA transit bus as it left a stop, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Joseph Lukowski had been a passenger on the bus Monday, as it traveled north on 49th Street North, according to investigators.

Lukowski lost his balance as he got off the bus through a rear door. The victim fell to the ground and under the right rear bus tire, as the vehicle started to pull away from the bus stop, investigators said.

The bus driver was unable to stop in time. The bus was driven by Charles Dunbar of Indian Rocks Beach.

Lukowski was transported to Northside Hospital where he died overnight from his injuries.

The accident occurred at 49th Street North, near 44th Avenue.
