Florida Gulf Beach Fishing Hot as Waters Chill

Capt. Billy Miller has been catching limits of flounder on the inshore gulf mitigation reefs. A knocker rig with white bait fished on the sandy edges of the reef has produced flounder to 5 pounds.

Moving out to the St. Pete Beach reef area, Miller and company found thick schools of kingfish and Spanish mackerel before the wind started blowing.

The Skyway Fishing Pier reports mackerel biting silver spoons and cut green backs. Silver trout were caught by anglers' bottom bumping tandem Love Lures.

Some big kings came over the railings this week at the Redington Pier. Capt. Eddie Herrington says kings to 30 pounds were caught using legal size mackerel for bait. Speckled trout moved in and went on the feed for anglers using white bait.

Capt. Ray Markham reports good action on redfish and flounder in the Terra Ceia Bay area. Deeper holes and channels out of the wind have been the best spots. A DOA shrimp worked very slowly has been the best bait.

Some snook are still along the beaches says Capt. Geoff Page. Page caught big snook in Sarasota Pass using white bait along the channel edges and docks.

Clear water and good incoming tides were key to success for Homosassa anglers. Trout, redfish, pompano sea bass and others were easy catches for anglers using red head white curly tail jigs under a clicking cork. Good spots were Mason Creek and the St. Martin's River.

Capt. Van Hubbard says fishing is good in Charlotte Harbor with no traces of red tide. Bait is easy to catch along the beaches and Spanish mackerel are easy catches when they attack the bait fish schools. Trout and redfish were hungry in Lemon Bay and tripletails were caught around the crab buoys.
