PHOTOS: Mermaids Gentlemen's Club Gets a Remodel, New Color

In addition to getting rid of the familiar purple paint job outside, the inside of Mermaids on St. Pete Beach has been overhauled. What do you think of the new look?

Mermaids Gentlemen's Club, a St. Pete Beach bikini bar, has taken on a whole new look, both inside and out.

Mermaids has recently undergone a redesign that not only changed the feel inside the club, but made it look drastically different from the outside.

"The purple is gone, which will help make the community much happier," said Richard Matthis, general manager of Mermaids.

Matthis, who has championed the remodeling job, would get numerous calls from the community complaining about the former purple color.

The new building color is a blue-gray that is more neutral than the previous purple.

The inside has also changed with a new bar, stage, carpeting furniture and partitions seperating different areas.

In addition to the changes, Matthis is looking to add a mural inside the club.

"I'd like to contact some local artists to see what they can do for me," Matthis said.

Even with much of the club redesigned and remodeled, Matthis is still planning on improving more.

"I'm hoping to get enough money appropriated to do the parking lot," Matthis said.

According to Matthis, customer reactions to the changes to Mermaids has been extremely positive.

"The customers love it. They can't believe that it's Mermaids," Matthis said.
