Lobsters in 'Mini's, Lactating Moms

If you savor Florida lobster, want to support breastfeeding, or are looking for a job that's also an adventure, read on for details.

Wednesday isn't just hump day, the middle of the work week. There actually are  some intriguing news, events and conversations happening in Pinellas Beaches communities. Here's a quick look:

1.) No squawking about it. Folks are reminded to mind their manners around nesting black skimmers. Sections of St. Pete Beach and other beaches are roped off to protect the eggs and avoid disturbing the birds. For details, read our announcement.

2.) Fresh fish! Merry Pier Fish Market posted a photo of some fresh fish for sale. Gulf fish is popular with locals and tourists. The market gets its fresh fish on Fridays. So plan in advance. What a fun way to pick up dinner!

3.) What's your dream job?
Folks who can't get enough of Florida's theme parks now have an unusual opportunity. Why not work in one? Legoland Florida has at least a dozen job openings for its Winter Haven theme park. Sure, it's a drive. But who knew work could look like so much fun? Here are the details on the openings.

4.) Lactation nation: What better way to call attention to the benefits of breastfeeding than to hold a "Big Latch On" across the U.S.? Pinellas County moms are invited to take part in this gathering of breastfeeding mothers and their babies. The event is not until next week (Aug. 2), but we're sure you may want to mark this one on your calendars. Click here for details.

5.) Lobsters in Minis? At the stroke of midnight today (Wednesday, July 24), Florida's lobster mini-season started. Yum! But the mini-season also will be gone in the blink of an eye – ending at midnight Thursday. The Coast Guard is reminding the diving and boating community to be safe. For more info on the mini-season, go to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission website. Just do it fast!
