Frigid Florida Surfing on Gulf Beaches

Gusting winds and big waves are not what snow birds have in mind when they flock to Florida beaches. But they turn out to be ideal for surfing.

So what if temperatures dipped into the 60s, after a line of thunderstorms off the Florida Gulf coast stirred the waves and scared away the toursists?

When the sun finally came out again – even as the temperatures stayed cold – some surfers donned wet suits and plunged into the surf.

Reader Jim "Mack" McAvaddy caught some of these wave jumpers enjoying the day despite the cold. Thanks, Jim, for submitting them to Pics & Clips!
