More About Clearwater Main Library
The Main Library sits on the same spot overlooking Clearwater Harbor as the original Carnegie Library, which was built in 1916.
The old library and subsequent additions were demolished to make way for the ultra-modern, four-floor facility. Library space expanded from 49,435 square feet to 90,000. The building also features a rooftop terrace.
In July 2000, Clearwater voters authorized the city to issue bonds for a new Main Library. Construction of the $20.2 million building, designed by renowned architect Robert A.M. Stern, was complete in 2004.
The library serves as a cultural attraction and northern anchor of the downtown area featuring gallery exhibits, special programs and a variety of community activities.
