My niece grew up with rabbits and loves to tell me about their antics of jumping and turning in mid-air to get your attention. They all have a subtle sense of humor but their personalities can range from timid to bold and rambunctious. 

Mostly everything else I know about rabbits comes from the House Rabbit Society, a nonprofit that offers great information and online advice. Did you know rabbits can live to be 10 years and older if they are kept inside? 

Domesticated rabbits make wonderful pets. It’s sad that they are often overlooked in favor of dogs and cats. Maybe that’s why February is ear-marked as Adopt-A-Rescued-Rabbit Month.

Here are some tips, if you're thinking about adopting a rabbit:

• A rabbit's diet should be made up of good quality pellets, fresh hay (alfalfa, timothy or oat), water and fresh vegetables. Anything beyond that is a "treat." Hay is essential to a rabbit's good health. Roughage reduces hairballs.
• Spaying or neutering prevents many health problems, the same as it does for dogs and cats. Behaviors improve, too, such as chewing, digging and house soiling. Bunnies can be litter-trained, too.
