Traffic Signal to be Added on Gulf Boulevard
One of the busiest areas on Treasure Island will be a bit more controlled after a traffic light begins operation in August.
The City of Treasure Island and Publix are splitting the cost to add a traffic light on Gulf Blvd. at 104th Ave. Construction has already begun for the city’s addition.
Due to a high volume of congestion at the crossroads of Gulf Blvd. and 104th Ave., the traffic signal is an important addition.
According to Silverboard, the Florida Department of Transportation have studies that “justify” the need for a traffic light. “There is a sufficient number of pedestrians that cross there, not to mention the vehicular traffic,” said Silverboard.
Silverboard says that the signal is expected to be up and running by late August.

Do you agree that this traffic signal is necessary?

Traffic signals sometimes help a lot at busy intersection as shopping centers, because people buzz in and out so fast.

I think a flashing red would be enough. It does get crazy at times because of people crossing the street for the beach but traffic lights are best to direct car traffic, not people traffic. How about an aesthetic cross walk?
