UPDATE: Sunshine Skyway Bridge Remains Closed

Seek an alternate route this morning to work. The bridge is closed due to high winds.

The Sunshine Skyway Bridge, closed since 4 p.m. Sunday, remains shut down Monday morning.

The bridge, which connects Pinellas and Manatee counties across Tampa Bay, will remain closed until the inclement weather subsides, according to Sgt. Steve Gaskins, FHP spokesperson.

Wind speeds have reached 58 mph, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Motorists are urged to seek alternative travel routes and drive with extreme caution.

It would be a public service to post a number where the current status of the bridge could be announced. The web page of 7 am has not been updated and now it is 5 pm. There is surely a number to be called, but it is not posted on this informative page. Just a suggestion. Thanks.
