According to the Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary, approximately 90 percent of the average 23-30 birds they receive on a daily basis are injured directly or indirectly by people. Of the birds that are brought in, 80 percent survive if they can endure the first 24 hours.

The sanctuary is a lot like a hospital for humans. There is an emergency room, a center for surgery and indoor/outdoor rehab spaces. 

Volunteers make up the majority of the non-profit's manpower. Most of the volunteers agree that they were hooked after their first visit.

More than 150 different species of wild birds are admitted to the sanctuary each year, making it one of the top rehabilitation facilities for birds in the world. Roughly 100,000 guests make their way through the grounds of the sanctuary every year. 

The Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary has secured a comfortable spot in Florida's tourism industry. Admission remains free, but donations are happily accepted. After all, operating a hospital is not cheap.

Education is the main goal of the volunteers at the Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary. They strive to inform the public so that the world wil be a better place, not only for the birds but for people.
