St. Pete Woman Survives Jump From Sunshine Skyway Bridge
After a woman jumped from the Sunshine Skyway Bridge, she was picked up by boaters that were nearby.
A woman drove to the highest point of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge around 7 a.m. Thursday and jumped.
According to St. Petersburg Fire and Rescue, the woman survived the jump and was pulled from the water by a nearby fisherman.
A fishing charter, operated by Captain Kris Winkel, was nearby and saw the commotion. Winkel drove to the woman and picked her up. According to authorities, the woman was then transported to Bayfront Medical Center where she is currently in stable condition.
A Florida Highway Patrol officer drove to the top of the bridge and placed a flare over the woman’s location, according to Lieutenant Joel Granata of St. Petersburg Fire Rescue. The flare helped Captain Winkel locate and rescue the woman. SPFR personnel then treated and transported the victim.
The fact that the woman survived is “unbelievable” Granata said. “She is lucky to be alive,” he added.
In a news release Captain Tim White, Incident Commander for SPFR said that the fishermen, “saved her life.”

My boyfriend saw her jump. He called 911. There were at least 3 other boaters who went by her without stopping. I hope it's only because they didn't see her. It was the cop who responded immediately to the 911 call who got the attention of the boater that did rescue the woman as she was treading water. The woman's rescue was due to teamwork and not just the efforts of the boater who pulled her from the water. A big thanks also needs to go to the Florida Highway Patrol officer.

This is my cousin and I am devastated. I was glad to hear that she not only survived, but that she was cared for by so many rescue, police, fire, and especially Captain Krins Winkel! Thank you so much for giving me another day, and many more with her. Thank you for your kind heart!

One of my best friends and. Fsu roommates had a close friend who dropped her two kids off at my girlfriends house to go shopping and actually went to that bridge and jumped...she wasn't so lucky.
....
My girlfriend has never gotten over it.
