Plans Uncertain for St. Pete Beach Police Building

Currently, the city is unsure of what to do with the specialized building.

With the St. Pete Beach Police gone, the question comes down to what will be done with the building that they used.

The City of St. Pete Beach currently doesn't know what to do with the building now that the St. Pete Beach Police are gone, according to My Fox Tampa Bay.

The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office only required a few offices and those were found in the St. Pete Beach City Hall.

While there is office space, much of the building is specialized with holding cells, a dispatch room, a parking garage and hardening to withstand a category 5 hurricane.

Mayor McFarlin has said that the city will find a use for the building and won't be demolishing it.

What do you think should be done with the building? Let us know in the comments!

Hmm...I think I accidentally placed my reply for this on some other article, but don't know which one...lol.
Anyway...I found it amusing the article pointed out the building had been subjected to ''hardening to withstand a category 5 hurricane''. We are new here, but considering the building is at ''zero'' sea level, even someone from Kansas knows how useless that would be if a Cat 5 hit.

CJ your correct as x-police employee building has a hard time to hold up to Cat 1 like always city fathers are misinformed and data is not correct. City wants new library well use that building instead of building a new one. 2nd floor the library and 3rd floor office and conference rooms .. cant believe they want to spend money they DONT have just like the great rec center and pool

Isn't the obvious question: why doesn't the Sheriff Department want to use it as a local substation? I mean...it would already have jail cells, etc...right? I can't understand ''why''... just because the Sheriff Department has taken over the jurisdiction of The St Pete's Beach Police...why this building has no further use related to Law Enforcement? It's a great building..at least it appears to be. The sale price must be too high.
I would like to add...that since the Sheriff Department has taken over, I think I have noticed more of a presense of Law Enforcement in the area. I have even noticed more activity in the areas that St Petersburg Police usually patrol. I hoep they keep it up. The entire area needs to be concerned how much crime has increased on the south side of Pinellas County, West of I-275.
