In Gulfport, Most Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church kicks off their annual festival on Thursday, Oct. 11 at 6 p.m. The fall festival has been an annual event in Gulfport for more than 30 years. There will be rides, games, raffles, food, drinks and more on now through Sunday at 5800 15th Ave S. Check out the following dates and times:

  • Friday, 4 - 11 p.m.

For a sneak peek at what to expect, check out our photo gallery from last year: "Photo Gallery: Oktoberfest Is Tradition."

Downtown St. Pete:

And for the nightowls and party animals, head to Downtown St. Pete. We have two events going on at Jannus Live. The Foam & Glow Party is on Friday at 9 p.m. and Sean Paul will perform on Saturday, Oct. 13. The Foam & Glow party will feature high-energy music, ultraviolet dancers and fire performers. Tickets range from $20 to $30. Tickets for Sean Paul are $25 in advance or $30 the day of the show.

The Oktoberfest was the lamest one I have ever been to. yeah..it had a German Band...I will grant them that. The advertisement poster I saw on this that made us go showed a well endowed lady in a German Blouse seving the traditional Oktoberfest style beer in the huge mugs. Uh....that's not what they had. Not at all. The ''only'' German food they had was bolied brawurts and some store bought German Potato sald served out of a plastice bag...and the beer was in a solo cup. Pretty much like the solo cup song. No drilled bratwursts. No German tent. You even had to walk to another booth to buy the beer. It cost 14 food tickets for one boiled bratwurst. All food had to be bought with tickets. We bought $25 dolars worth to start. We needed 2 more tickets to pay for our food....so I went over and bought $20 more...thinking I would use them on the carnival. WRONG. It uses different tickets, they would refund the unused food tickets. Plus...we came late the first night, Thurday, at about 9:30 pm.. It says they would be open till 11pm. WRONG...the rides and and everything closed as soon as we got done eating at 10 pm...and we got cheated out of $19 worth of food tickets. Some church event. Not impressed. Most lame thing I have seen here. If they can't do a better Oktoberfest than that, dont call it that. School/Church Carnival is about all it ranked. We would have been OK if our expectations were not falsely built up. They didn't even have apple strutzsel. Whaa...give me a tissue.
