The state filed a lien this week against the Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary for failing to pay more than $6,600 in unemployment taxes, the Tampa Bay Times reports.

The Indian Shores facility owes a total of $7,684.19, including interest, penalties and other fees, according to a lien field with the Pinellas County Clerk of Court, the Times found.

"There is nothing we can do," operations manager Micki Eslick told the newspaper. "We just can't pay at this time. But it will be paid when we can."

The sanctuary has faced myriad money troubles in the past year, including three liens totaling more than $186,000 for unpaid payroll taxes and more than $21,000 it was forced to pay in back wages for employees, the Times reports.
