Madeira Beach Nuisance Ordinance Becomes Law
The chronic nuisance ordinance in Madeira Beach has become a law.
Landlords with problematic tenants will be facing some strict fines now in Madeira Beach.
The chronic nuisance ordinance brought up by the Madeira Beach City Commission has made a law, according to the Beach Beacon.
The law will have properties judged by a list of nuisance behaviors and punished if three or more of the behaviors happened in 30 days or seven or more in a six-week period.
The nuisance behaviors are described as:
- activities related to alcoholic beverages
- prostitution
- criminal mischief
- theft
- disorderly conduct
- loitering
- gang activity
- wrecked property
- harassment
- assault
- underage drinking
- burglary
- grand theft
- domestic violence
- robbery
The police force would enforce the law and the fines would be dealt with, and paid as, taxes assessments.

Smart move. If a couple of people have a fight in front of business, the owner of that business is fined. Punish the business for the act of unrelated idiots. Chase away business and who will pay the fines? Can't the City just let the people arrested deal with the consequences of their own personal behavior and leave the business alone? Tax everyone and everyone will eventually leave.

What about the he she that walks on the beach? That is a nuisance! It walks the beach wearing a thong and horse shoe balding head...it walks in front of families and children with it's ass not covered at all..the women on the beach wear more. Of course who are ya gonna fine for that? I guess if you can't rob a business it dosn't matter

Where in the article does it specify this ordinanace is mainly for businesses? I am sure it obviously would include businesess, such as bars, hotels, etc. The article sounds like to me it is referrring just as much to renters in houses, apartments, etc. The good thing about this ordinance is that the police have a tool to work with to help them reduce problems they see. I am sure they will continue to use descretion as they usually do. Cops grant plenty of breaks to people they could arrest. Now they can get better results when being nice does not work.
