Going along with the recent rebranding of Madeira Beach, an official song has been chosen for Madeira Beach, according to the Beach Beacon.
"Grouper Republic", a song by Pete Shackett, will be used for promotion of Madeira Beach.

Hi Diane. Good question. That's a really great song. I just listened to it. This is Pete Shackett. I wrote Grouper Republic back in 1987. I played John's Pass and the entire area in Shackett & Merrigan, The Mad Beach Band and my single act for 20 years. The official song idea was as much as a surprise to me as well. I can only hope you enjoy that song too. If you'd like to hear more songs off my album Grouper Republic, you can log on to www.myspace.com/peteshackett and hear more songs of the beaches and from that time period. I will try to contact Joe B about his song and just to say hey from one musician to another. Thanks for turning me on to his music. Pete
