Landlords Could Face Fines for "Nuisance" Tenants in Madeira Beach
A proposed law in Madeira Beach could fine property owners for tenants if they are being considered a "chronic nuisance".
Madeira Beach might be looking at getting landlords to choose their tenants more carefully.
A proposed law would fine property owners who have tenants that cause chronic nuisance problems, according to the Beach Beacon.
The proposed law would have properties judged by a list of nuisance behaviors and punished if three or more of the behaviors happened in 30 days or seven or more in a six-week period.
The nuisance behaviors are described as:
- activities related to alcoholic beverages
- criminal mischief
- disorderly conduct
- gang activity
- wrecked property
- underage drinking
- grand theft
- domestic violence
The police force would enforce the law and the fines would be dealt with, and paid as, taxes assessments.
The Madeira Beach city commission agreed to unamiously moved forward with having the city attorney finalize the ordinance.
