Injured Cruise Ship Pelican Coming to the Seabird Sanctuary

The pelican, that came Maryland, injured itself after flying into part of the ship's superstructure.

An injured pelican that landed on a cruise ship is scheduled to be transferred to the Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary Friday.

According to the Hillsborough County Animal Services, the pelican injured itself by flying into part of the ship’s superstructure after landing on the boat.

Doctors from BluePearl Veterinary Partners avian and exotics medicine team have treated the bird for dehydration and a minor wing injury that will require rehabilitation.

The pelican was found to have been banded from Holland Island in Maryland.

The pelican is scheduled to spend the rehabilitation period at the Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary.
