Indian Rocks Beach Files Claim for BP Oil Spill

Indian Rocks Beach is submitting a claim for $3.14 million against BP.

Indian Rocks Beach is joining other communities in filing claims against BP for the oil spill of 2010, according to the Belleair Bee.

Indian Rocks Beach is claiming $3.14 million was lost because of the oild spill.

Not long after the spill happened, businesses on the beaches came to a standstill due to decreased tourism and vacationers.

Even though no oil turned up on the shores, tourism dropped dramatically after the spill.

A study performed by the accounting firm of Dixon Hughes Goodman was presented to the Indian Rocks Beach city commission that showed the city had lost over $3 million because of the spill.

Motley Rice represent Indian Rocks Beach, as well as Gulfport and New Port Richey and Pasco County, in making the claim against BP.

If BP decides to settle with Indian Rocks Beach, Motley Rice will get 20 percent of the settlement.
