The 15-year-old St. Petersburg girl was thrown from the raft, which was being towed by a motor boat. The teen driving the motor boat did not have permission to use it.
A 15-year-old girl died today, after the raft she was riding in struck a dock at the Redington Shores Yacht and Tennis Club in Redington Beach.
ABC Action News reported that Deviny Boese of St. Petersburg was pronounced dead at St. Petersburg General Hospital.
A second teenage passenger in the raft – 16-year-old Sarah Dobbs of Pinellas Park – suffered an ankle injury and was taken to All Children's Hospital, according to Fox 13 News.
The raft was being towed by a boat along the Intracoastal Waterway. The boat was driven by 15-year-old Brandon Noah of Redington Shores, according to ABC Action News.
The boy apparently did not have permission to use the boat, which is owned by his parents, according to media reports.
The boy is charged with reckless operation of a vessel resulting in a fatality, according to ABC Action News.
Preliminary reports show that the boat got too close to the dock, and the raft hit the dock. The two teenage girls were thrown from the raft, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.
