Through With Chew Week & The Great American Spit Out
Smokeless tobacco, like chew or dip, can cause oral cancers, pancreatic cancer, esophageal cancer, heart disease, stroke, reproductive health issue, and addiction. Floridian Rick Bender lost a 1/3 of his face to cancer caused by chewing tobacco.
Through With Chew Week (Feb. 17-23) aims to prevent and reduce the use of smokeless tobacco. The Great American Spit Out on Thurs, Feb. 21 encourages smokeless tobacco users to quit using smokeless tobacco that day, or to use the day to make a plan to quit.
Tobacco Free Florida (http://www.tobaccofreeflorida.com) provides free services to help quit nicotine, including free nicotine patches (while supplies last and if medically appropriate) by calling the Florida Quitline at 1-877-U-CAN-NOW. Ways to quit are available at http://www.tobaccofreeflorida.com/Contents-12/How-to-quit/ and in Spanish at http://www.tobaccofreeflorida.com/Contents-99/Deja-el-tabaco/
